About Pikmin amiibo

Pikmin (2001 GameCube) was Shigeru Miyamoto's response to a backyard-anthill observation: he watched ants carrying food in coordinated groups and thought 'this should be a video game,' which became the franchise where the player commands an army of small plant-creature workers to collect resources, defeat enemies, and rebuild a crashed spaceship. The amiibo released July 28, 2017 alongside Pikmin's Switch debut, depicting a small Red Pikmin standing on Captain Olimar's space-helmeted shoulder.

Most fans don't realize how rich the Pikmin lore actually is. The plant-creatures evolved on a planet strongly implied to be future-Earth after humans went extinct. The franchise's commitment to a post-apocalyptic-Earth setting is the kind of secret-lore beat the amiibo doesn't acknowledge but informs every figure-line decision.

It pairs with the Olimar Smash Amiibo. The figure holds on to the Captain-and-Pikmin pairing that has been the franchise's primary visual identity since 2001.
