About Samus amiibo

Metroid Dread (2021 Switch) was the long-anticipated mainline Metroid that took eleven years to develop and was originally meant to release on DS in 2009 before being shelved repeatedly. When Dread finally shipped, it was the franchise's first fully-new 2D Metroid since 2002's Fusion. The Dread development saga is its own Metroid lore beat: the game was teased, cancelled, leaked, and re-greenlit across multiple console generations before Sakamoto's team finally shipped it. The amiibo released October 8, 2021 alongside Dread.

Tap her on Dread to unlock an extra energy tank's worth of HP boost on first scan, plus missile-tank refills on subsequent taps. Unusually substantive for a Metroid figure because Dread is one of the franchise's hardest mainline entries (the EMMI sequences are the franchise's most stress-inducing combat), and the HP boost is meaningfully felt in actual gameplay.

She pairs with the EMMI amiibo (the Dread enemy figure), Samus Aran (Series), and the broader Metroid cluster. Dread shipped to broad critical acclaim and revitalized the Metroid franchise after the long mainline dormancy.
