About Goomba amiibo
The Goomba was the last enemy added to the original Super Mario Bros. (1985 NES). Shigeru Miyamoto has said in interviews that the team realized they didn't have enough enemies, ran out of time, and designed the Goomba in something like an afternoon: brown blob, two feet, walks left, dies in one hit. He became the franchise's foundational enemy precisely because he was so disposable. The amiibo released March 30, 2018.
In Japan they're called Kuribo, which translates to 'chestnut person,' which is actually closer to the design. The English localization went with 'Goomba' because it sounded vaguely Italian. Either way, the silhouette has stayed roughly identical for four decades: brown body, sad eyes, two visible fangs, two stubby feet.
The figure: dark-brown body, angry eye-and-fang, two small feet. Standard 'I am about to walk into Mario' pose. Small.
He pairs with Koopa Troopa and the Mario antagonist subcluster. (Most amiibos commemorate named characters. This one commemorates an enemy class. The Bullet Bill, the Hammer Bro, the Lakitu, the Cheep-Cheep all got skipped. Goombas got plastic.) He's been getting stomped for forty years and he hasn't complained once.
