About Koopa Troopa amiibo
Koopas predate Goombas by a few months of dev time. They were the original enemy in Super Mario Bros. (1985 NES), and they're more mechanically interesting than Goombas: when Mario stomps a Koopa, the Koopa retreats into its shell, and the shell becomes a kickable projectile that slides across the stage and damages whatever it hits, including other Koopas.
The shell-as-weapon mechanic is one of the foundational physics gimmicks of platforming, period. Mario throwing a turtle shell at another turtle has been a single uninterrupted joke since 1985. Released March 30, 2018 alongside the Goomba.
The figure: green shell, yellow body, red feet, the standard reptilian face. Standard 'I am walking forward and will not stop' Koopa stance.
He pairs with the Goomba, the Mario-line cluster, and the Mario antagonist subcluster. The Goomba and the Koopa Troopa together are the Mario-enemy starter pack. Owning both is the franchise's enemy display. The two of them on a shelf together quietly tell the story of what Mario has been killing for forty years. The Koopa is still walking forward. He still believes in the plan.
