About Toon Link - The Wind Waker amiibo

Wind Waker (2002 GameCube) shipped with cel-shaded cartoon graphics that looked nothing like Ocarina of Time's realistic 3D, and the fanbase split immediately: half loved the WW art-style for its expressiveness; half rejected it as too kid-like. The franchise responded with Twilight Princess (deliberately gritty), then doubled down on cel-shading with Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, then settled into BotW's painterly approach. WW Link is the Toon-Link configuration: small, big-eyed, green tunic, sword-and-shield, anime-cartoon proportions. Released March 4, 2017.

Tap him on BotW for WW-themed gear drops including the Hero of Winds Tunic and Sea-Breeze Boomerang. The Boomerang is the most coveted unlock because the Boomerang weapon-class is small in BotW and WW Link is the easiest way to get one.

He pairs with Zelda Wind Waker, Link Ocarina of Time, Link Twilight Princess, Link Skyward Sword, and the broader Link cluster. WW is the franchise's most-aged-well art-style decision: the cel-shaded look has held up over twenty years better than OoT's realistic 3D ever did. The most controversial-at-launch entry has become its most respected.
