About Link - Ocarina of Time amiibo
OoT Link is the version of Link that defined what 3D action-adventure games even look like. Ocarina of Time (1998 N64) is the game that introduced Z-targeting, codified the modern Zelda formula, and is regularly listed in 'best video games ever made' rankings two and a half decades later. The amiibo is the adult-Link configuration from that game: green tunic, Master Sword vertical, Hylian Shield horizontal. Released June 23, 2017 in the BotW launch wave.
What he does is drop Tunic of Time gear in BotW. Yes, BotW, not OoT. The OoT-era figure exists primarily as a BotW loot-drop, which is the kind of late-stage merchandising decision worth pausing on. (The franchise made an Ocarina-of-Time Link amiibo and gave him exactly one job: drop a recolor tunic in a game made twenty years later. Nintendo knows us too well)
The figure: Adult Link playing is Ocarina. Old schoolers know this link can beat BOTW link for breakfeast. Did you see his quads? But I digress.
He pairs with Link Majora's Mask, Link Twilight Princess, Link Skyward Sword, and every other Link figure. Most Zelda fans started with OoT. The figure is for them.
