About Link - The Legend of Zelda amiibo
Link 8-bit is a 3D-rendered version of the original 1986 Legend of Zelda NES sprite, translated directly into plastic. Released November 4, 2016 for the franchise's 30th Anniversary, the figure is the Zelda-line equivalent of the Mario 30th Anniversary Classic Colors release: an 8-bit pixel-sprite pulled physically into the third dimension, all blocky stairsteps and limited-palette colors. The pixel-art-as-3D-figure design choice is the kind of bit you commit to or you don't, and the figure commits.
The figure is like voxel sculpt with blocky proportions, hard-edged steps in the silhouette, the limited NES color palette unchanged exactly. Looks like a Lego Link with the studs filed off. Japanese versions have a cross because Legend Of Zelda was originally way more Christian-bent than later Nintendo would later abandon.
He pairs with Mario 8-bit and the broader Link-character cluster. The figure reminds you of where everything came from
