About Steve amiibo
Steve is the player-character of Minecraft (2009), the franchise that has sold over 300 million copies and is the largest crossover IP in Smash Ultimate, period. The Smash community had been speculating about a Steve inclusion for years because Minecraft's blocky-pixelated art-style is so visually distinct from Smash's polygon-character-design that fitting Steve into Smash's combat system seemed structurally impossible. Sakurai eventually solved it by making Steve a fighter who builds blocks mid-fight, mines materials between attacks, and crafts upgraded weapons using the franchise's resource-gathering system. The amiibo released March 26, 2021.
In Smash Ultimate his FP plays the franchise's most resource-management-heavy AI: mine-and-craft cycles mid-match, block-construction for defense, weapon-upgrading via mid-fight resource gathering. The Steve FP has a meta-game layer most Smash characters don't have.
He pairs with the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 subset (Min Min, Steve, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, Kazuya, Sora) and the broader third-party Smash cluster. The figure looks like a small Minecraft mod come to life.
