About Sora amiibo
Sora is the protagonist of Kingdom Hearts (2002 PS2), Square Enix's collaboration with Disney where the player fights Heartless across worlds built on Disney IP. His Smash Ultimate DLC inclusion (October 2021) was the final Fighters Pass Vol. 2 fighter and the very last fighter Smash Ultimate ever added. Sakurai had said publicly that Sora was the most-requested character in the Smash Ballot, and the Ballot ran in 2015, which means his Smash inclusion was a six-year-delayed payoff for a fan vote everyone had assumed produced no winner. The amiibo released April 12, 2024.
His weapon is the Keyblade, specifically the Kingdom Key. The Smash version preserves the Keyblade as his primary weapon and adds three magic-spell specials (Fire, Thunder, Blizzard) that rotate as the player presses the special button.
The Disney licensing arrangement for Sora was reportedly the most complicated in Smash history; Sakurai has discussed it in interviews. Getting Disney to sign off on a Square Enix character appearing in a Nintendo fighting game was a multi-party negotiation that took years.
He pairs with Cloud, Sephiroth, and the broader Smash Ultimate DLC subcluster. Smash Ultimate stopped adding fighters after Sora. He's the closing punctuation mark on the entire era. The figure is the franchise's last word.
