About Roy amiibo
Roy is the protagonist of Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade (2002 GBA), the franchise entry that was never officially localized in the West despite multiple fan-campaigns. His Smash Melee inclusion (2001) was the franchise's first commitment to including a Fire Emblem character whose source-game wasn't yet available in the West, which made Roy's Smash inclusion the first Western-audience encounter with the Binding Blade protagonist. Roy was cut from Brawl (2008), absent from Smash 4's launch, and re-added as DLC. The amiibo released January 22, 2016.
In Smash Ultimate his FP trains with his distinctive moveset: Flare Blade neutral-special-charge, Double-Edge Dance side-special-string, Blazer up-special-recovery, Counter down-special. His sword's hilt-deals-more-damage mechanic is the inverse of Marth's tip-deals-more-damage mechanic.
He pairs with Marth, Lucina, Ike, Robin, Corrin, Chrom, Byleth, and the rest of the Fire Emblem-line Smash cluster.
