About Ryu amiibo
Ryu is the protagonist of Capcom's Street Fighter franchise (1987 arcade onward), and one of the most iconic fighting-game characters in gaming history. His Smash 4 inclusion (2015 DLC) was the franchise's first commitment to bringing a Street Fighter character into Smash, with the moveset built to be the most fighting-game-traditional in Smash 4: command-input super-moves (the iconic Hadoken quarter-circle-forward + punch input), focus-attack-tier inputs, and attacks that deal more damage when input as command-grabs rather than standard-Smash button-presses. The amiibo released February 5, 2016.
The Ryu inclusion predated the Terry Bogard inclusion by four years. He's the first Street-Fighter-style mechanical fighter in Smash, and his command-input mechanic added traditional-fighting-game tactics to Smash combat.
In Smash Ultimate his FP trains with the command-input moveset: Hadoken neutral-special, Tatsumaki Senpukyaku side-special, Shoryuken up-special, Focus Attack down-special-charge.
He pairs with Ken (his Street Fighter rival), Terry, Cloud, Sephiroth, and the third-party-fighter cluster.
