About Sephiroth amiibo
Sephiroth is Final Fantasy VII's antagonist as a Smash Ultimate DLC fighter, Square Enix's second Smash licensing deal after Cloud. He debuted in Final Fantasy VII (1997 PS1) as the silver-haired one-winged-angel ex-SOLDIER who kills Aerith and tries to summon Meteor to destroy the planet. His DLC reveal at The Game Awards 2020 ran the One-Winged Angel theme over Sakurai's full villain-reveal sequence and ended with Sephiroth dropping Meteor on a Smash stage. The FF7 fanbase had been waiting for this specific fighter for a decade. The amiibo released October 27, 2023.
His weapon is the Masamune, the absurdly long katana he's carried since FF7. In Smash it's the longest sword in the roster: his neutral-air covers more horizontal distance than Cloud's full Buster Sword swing. The moveset adds Flare, Megaflare, and Gigaflare (charged-projectile variants from FF7's spell list), Octaslash (multi-hit string), Shadow Flare (counter), and the Wing of Sephiroth, a single black wing that activates at high percent for extra mobility.
He pairs with Cloud, Sora, and the third-party Smash subcluster. Square Enix has been merchandising Sephiroth at every opportunity since 1997, but this sculpt is still the only place the Masamune has been engineered to actual scale. The Meteor is off-shelf.
