About Pokémon Trainer amiibo
Pokemon Trainer is the Smash-line representation of the original Red/Leaf Pokemon Red protagonist, the 10-year-old trainer who carries a starter trio (Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard) and rotates between them mid-fight in Smash Ultimate. The character first appeared as a Brawl playable character (2008), got cut from Smash 4 (2014), and returned in Ultimate (2018) with the full rotation mechanic. The amiibo released September 14, 2018.
Most Smash figures are one-fighter-per-figure; Pokemon Trainer is one-figure-three-fighters because the rotation is the entire character's gameplay identity. In Smash Ultimate the FP trains with the full rotation: Squirtle for fast-light, Ivysaur for ranged-mid-tier, Charizard for slow-heavy.
The figure: Pokemon Trainer in his red-cap-and-jacket design with one arm raised about to throw a Pokeball. Extremely nostalgic; the design is basically Ken Sugimori's art in figure form.
He pairs with Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard (the Pokemon Trainer four-figure subset) and the broader Pokemon-line Smash cluster. Most Pokemon-fans-who-Smash own all four figures because the trio is meaningless without the rotation manager. The figure stands on his own; the three Pokemon get their own stands. This combo is super effective
