About Sonic amiibo
Sonic the Hedgehog is the protagonist of SEGA's Sonic franchise (1991 Genesis onward), and his Smash Brawl inclusion (2008) was the gaming community's multi-decade payoff for two industry rivals finally fighting in the same game. The Sonic-in-Smash decision preceded the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games crossovers. It was the first sign Nintendo and SEGA's old console-war rivalry had thawed. The amiibo released February 1, 2015.
In Smash Ultimate his FP trains as the franchise's most mobility-coded AI fighter: Homing Attack neutral-special, Spin Dash side-special, Spring Jump up-special, Spin Charge down-special. The Sonic FP's ground-and-air movement-speed is the highest in the roster. (Sonic has been banned from various competitive tournaments across multiple Smash entries because the speed plus the ranged-spam options made him a meta menace.)
He pairs with the third-party Smash cluster (Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ryu, Cloud, Bayonetta, Joker, Hero, Banjo, Terry, Min Min, Steve, Sephiroth). The figure stands ready to outrun every other amiibo on the shelf.
